Sustainability and Your Ceremony

Caring for the planet is a core part of how I celebrate love and life. I run my business in a modern, digital-first way, which means far less paper, fewer printed materials, and a lighter environmental footprint overall. From planning to paperwork, everything is handled online wherever possible, keeping things simple, streamlined, and low-waste. I also believe the most meaningful ceremonies don’t need excess or extravagance—just heart, intention, and connection. By focusing on what truly matters, I’m able to work alongside you to create beautiful, memorable celebrations while being kind to the Earth we all share.

How Can We Create a Sustainable Ceremony for You?

Your ceremony should always reflect you, your love and your story.  Here are six ways you can weave in love for the earth as well as the people around you into your sustainable ceremony.  These aren't the only options - I'd love to talk more with you about making your ceremony sustainable and looking after our world!

Use of Technology

Be assured that when I write your scripts, the use of AI will absolutely not be used - not only to ensure complete personalisation for you, but to make sure we are looking after our world, together.

I also encourage online meetings during the planning of your ceremony so we can keep travel to a minimum.  If you are celebrating love, you might even want to consider setting up your own wedding website to communicate with your guests, rather than paper Invitations or RSVPs.

Printing Only The Good Stuff

Your booking forms, contracts and draft scripts will all be delivered electronically to save on printing and the unnecessary use of paper. You will need printed materials for your ceremony, from vow booklets to a copy of your final script.  Your Keepsake Script and other important materials will be printed for you, but on high quality, recycled paper, produced by local or UK based businesses.

Use of Animals During Your Ceremony

I absolutely encourage you to bring your beloved pet along to your ceremony and I would love to help you find ways to those special individuals with you during this important moment.  However, I don't support the use of "hired" animals for the purposes of entertainment or ritual during your ceremony.

Consider Handmade or Second-hand Outfits for your Wedding

There are lots of UK based dressmakers and tailors who can help you to make an entirely bespoke outfit for your special day.  You can have it made from scratch or you can even find an outfit in a charity shop and have alterations made to it! These options support local business, charity and reduce reliance on fast fashion.

Rituals

Rituals during a ceremony are a wonderful way to share your love and your story.  To keep things ethical, there are so many options.  For your wedding you could have a ring-warming or plant a tree.  Handfasting is a lovely option and you can even make your own cords.

For funerals, there are options to have a biodegradable coffin, natural burial or limiting floral displays. As a gesture of love from me, for all funerals, find out about my Living Tree Memorial pledge.

Use Seasonal Produce or Even Grow Your Own

Everyone loves a beautiful floral display at a ceremony.  It adds to the atmosphere, is soft and welcoming and is an immediate visual spectacle.  If you have time, how about growing your own flowers (even only having those that are "living" on display) or asking your florist about what flowers are in season for your time of year.  You can even ask your venue about only using seasonal produce for your celebration event afterwards, and make sure they are committed to what happens to any food not used.

My Sustainable Story

Sustainability isn't just about me asking you to consider eco-friendly options

I really believe we have a responsibility to look after our beautiful world, and even the smallest gestures make a difference. In my day to day life I try really hard to live a life aware of the consequences that my actions have on our world. This includes:

  • Growing my own veg using peat free, homemade compost

  • Collecting rainwater for watering the plants in the garden

  • Recycling and reusing

  • Avoiding the use of palm oil in food and products

  • Avoiding the use of AI in my life and work

  • Limit the purchasing of fast-fashion, looking after clothes, cars and other items to keep them working for me longer, or buying second hand items if possible

  • Preferring to buy locally rather than using sites such as Amazon

  • Buying utilities from Octopus Energy who are one of the more eco-friendly energy companies

  • Subscribing to the WYCH Rewards app, an online platform run by Wychavon Council to support sustainable choices.

There are lots of ways we can all contribute to looking after our world, this is just my little corner.
